A few months ago, we covered the new Continental GT Speed and all of the exciting changes in performance and driving character that is promises. But, of course, we can’t forget about its fraternal twin sibling, the open-air Bentley Continental GTC (or Grand Tourer Convertible).
This marks the first time in the nameplate’s history that the GT and GTC have been updated concurrently. Like the hardtop version, the Continental GTC has seen some massively exciting changes going into its fourth generation. Here’s everything you need to know if you’re considering buying one of these handcrafted legends at our South Florida Bentley dealer.
Bentley Continental GT Convertible Performance
The big headline for the new generation of continental GTC is that the iconic 12-cylinder Bentley engine is no longer available. The good news is it’s been replaced by something even more daring and powerful: an Ultra Performance Hybrid V8, which puts out 771 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque.
All in all, this new powertrain is responsible for an 11 percent increase in total system torque, which grants the Continental GTC a 0-60 time of just 3.2 seconds. That’s supposedly about .1 seconds slower than the new Continental GT, but we say a tenth of a second is a small price to pay for the exhilaration of the top down and the wind in your hair.
The V8 engine and electric motor have been optimized to provide the best power at all speeds, with the EV motor propelling acceleration from idle and the gas motor providing the push at higher velocity, allowing a smooth ascent to a top speed of over 170 miles per hour.
As a plug-in hybrid, the new Continental GTC can also be operated purely on electric power for swift and silent motoring at speeds up to 87 miles per hour. Thanks to cutting-edge battery tech, it can be fully recharged in under 3 hours.
Bentley Continental GT Convertible Features
Currently, two options are available: the Bentley Continental GTC Speed and the Bentley Continental GTC Mulliner. The Speed represents the model’s purest expression of performance, while the Mulliner gives you unlimited creative license to create your own Continental GTC from the ground up.
The Continental GTC’s exterior has seen some notable improvements. The bodylines have been given a more seamless appearance, with fewer gaps and negative spaces to lend to its cohesion of form. Other exterior features have been improved upon as well, including the headlamps, taillights, bumpers, exhaust, and more. These changes give the fourth-gen Continental GTC its own distinct character while still retaining the model’s trademark form.
Inside the Continental GTC, you’ll find even greater attention to detail than ever before, with new upholstery and quilting options. It also introduces some functional features too, including Wellness seating with Postural Adjust for unrivaled comfort during long road trips (it is a grand tourer, after all).
