85 Years Celebrating the Spirit of Bentley Ownership

The story of The Bentley Drivers Club began in 1936 at the legendary Brooklands racetrack in Surrey, England. A group of Bentley owners was attending a racing event there. One of the owners, Mr. Keston Pelmore, desired to meet his fellow Bentley enthusiasts.

To facilitate this gathering, he placed cards printed with the words “Bentley Drivers Club” on the windshields (or windscreens as they say in England) of the various Bentleys parked at the event inviting fellow owners to a get-together at his small London flat to discuss creating an exclusive club for Bentley owners. Their response far exceeded Mr. Pelmore’s expectations; so much so that he hastened to arrange a larger venue at the nearby Boltons Hotel to accommodate the 26 Bentley enthusiasts who showed up.

A committee was formed and a month later the Bentley Drivers Club began holding its first events. W.O. Bentley himself even became a member. Unfortunately, World War II put an abrupt halt to club activities. Pelmore subsequently joined the Royal Air Force and sadly perished when his Wellington bomber was shot down during a raid over Dusseldorf.

Keston Pelmore would no doubt be delighted to know that, from Miami to Monaco and New York to Tokyo, The Bentley Drivers Club is now a worldwide community of more than 4,000 Bentley owners. United under the umbrella of the Federation of Bentley Clubs, they share a common bond of enthusiasm for all things Bentley. There are more than 30 Bentley Club Regions around the world.
