Bentley vehicles are apex machines filled to the brim with power, comfort, and most of all, luxury. Every vehicle is a testament to expertise in design, engineering, and manufacturing. They stand out amongst the crowd with their striking designs and impressive specs. With that said, many people don’t realize that Bentleys are British luxury vehicles, but that doesn’t mean they are only made in the UK. In this quick overview, we’ll look at where Bentley cars are made, the history of Bentley manufacturing, and more. Read on for a fun history lesson!
Where are Bentley Cars Made?
For the most part, Bentley Cars are made at the Bentley Crewe Factory, located in Crewe, England. In fact, Bentley headquarters, along with the main manufacturing facility, are located in Crewe, England. This is where the engineers tinker and design each vehicle and every component to adhere to the brand’s reputation for craftsmanship and innovation. However, this wasn’t always the case, nor is this the only location in the world where Bentley cars are made.
The History of Bentley Manufacturing
There’s plenty to say here, but we’ll keep it quick and easy. Bentley history begins with the creation of the brand by Walter Owen Bentley in 1919, with the first plant in Cricklewood, North London. The first model off the line was the Bentley Three Liter in 1921, adhering to the ideals that Bentley wanted to develop and release a reliable, fast car.
While the brand enjoyed several years of success, it reached an agreement to be bought by Rolls-Royce in 1931. After a brief relocation to Derby, the brand landed in Crewe in 1946, where it still resides today, as we mentioned earlier. During the following decades, Rolls-Royce and Bentley shared designs and engines, which led to the solidification of their reputation for power and luxury. But after 60+ years, Bentley was ready for another change.
In 1998, the Volkswagen Group stepped in and took over ownership of the Bentley name and immediately set to work to update the Crewe factory. From this point on, Bentley poured all of their attention into reinvigorating their mission to build the most powerful and luxurious vehicles possible. During the VW years, Bentley pushed the envelope by introducing the Mulsanne and the renowned Continental GT. Their first luxury SUV, the Bentley Bentayga, rolled off the line in 2015 to great fame and success.
Are Bentley Cars Made in England?
For the most part, yes, Bentley vehicles are made in England. However, some bodies and parts are made elsewhere. There are plants in Germany and Slovakia that create components for Bentley vehicles; however, all of these pieces are sent to the Bentley center in Crewe, England, for final assembly before being released to the worldwide markets.
Who Owns Bentley Cars?
Volkswagen has owned Bentley cars since 1998, but empowers the brand to chase greater heights in performance and luxury aspects of vehicle making.
